This 2-CD set is a must-hear for our many hardcore Bruckner fans. It consists of a 2002 live performance in Salzburg by Nicholas Harnoncourt and the Vienna Philharmonic, one disc of the often-performed first three movements of Bruckner's 9th and a second disc with a "workshop" reconstructing the composition's finale. The release is the first recording of the 2000 edition from Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs re-assembling the finale, which was written in 1895 when the composer was ailing. then suppressed by his musical executors and then dis-assembled in a process that will give musicologists out there a seizure. Despite the fact that the finale was completely composed, with much of it orchestrated, the executors actually gave away many single pages of the score as gifts. The 2000 edition collects what can be found - probably 90% of the finale - and presents it ready for performance.
