The Spanish band Marlango was founded in 1998 when gospel actress and singer Leonor Watling and academically trained pianist, composer and conductor Alejandro Pelayo discovered that they were interested in writing and performing songs together, and not only they enjoyed listening to these songs. They borrowed the name of their duet from the plot of one of the songs of Tom Waits. In 2001, the duet turned into a trio - trumpeter Oscar Ibarra, who arrived in Madrid from New York, joined Leonor and Pelayo. In the new line-up they recorded their debut album Marlango in 2004, which turned out to be very successful. Successful concert tours followed.
