Fishmans (Japanese: フィッシュマンズ) is a Japanese dub/rock band that was founded in 1987 at Meiji Gakuin University in Minato City, Tokyo. They are known for their unique psychedelic sound and the distinctive vocals of late vocalist Shinji Sato, as well as the drumming of Kin'ichi Motegi and the rocksteady bass lines of Yuzuru Kashiwabara. Fishmans remained relatively unknown for most of their existence, but have since gained a cult following, largely due to their popularity on web forums. Writing for The Japan Times in 2019, James Hadfield wrote that their albums Kūchū Camp and Long Season "are undisputed milestones in the Japanese rock canon."
