Ray Lugo & The Boogaloo Destroyers is an octet of New York City that represents the awakening of boogaloo and Latin soul in the world salsa scene. These genres that had their zenith at the end of the 60's, and that along with the salsa became a way of life for many young people settled in the Spanish Harlem of this great city, had disappeared in the last three decades. The Boogaloo Destroyers, with two productions to date for the English label Freestyle Records, are one of the few groups dedicated to cultivating this rhythm that made famous groups like Joe Cuba Sextet, Héctor Rivera, Ray Barreto, Pete Rodriguez or Los Lebrón Brothers.
Formed in 2010 by the producer - and director of afrobeat group Kokolo- Ray Lugo, Los Boogaloo Destroyers debuted in 2011 with Mi Watusi, and now they return with their second musical production Que Chévere!.
Que Chévere is composed of 10 unpublished tracks where we could highlight songs like: Ritmo De New York presents a single insane Neil Chastain in the timbales and later in the congas; In Ven Al Jala Jala we hear the excellent execution of Chris Morrow to the trombone; In Rico Boogaloo Brandon Barbee excels in trumpet solo; Earthquake, perhaps the best part of the album, is a download that could remain for posterity and become a classic revival of salsa.
