Vasily Petrenko made his Royal Liverpool Philharmonic debut at age 28 in 2004. Two years later he was named music director. He is still there! By the time these recordings were made Petrenko was already having an impact with these recordings coming across as perhaps somewhat leaner than some of the favorite Rachmaninov exponents of the past, but none-the-less with a sure sense of stylistic authenticity, and expressiveness without overkill.
