Artist: Stanislaw Skrowaczewski / Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) was an Austrian composer of the late Romantic era. A skilled organist and teacher of music theory, Bruckner developed slowly and found composition difficult. His insecurities and the advice of well-meaning followers led him to revise many of his 11 symphonies several times, resulting in a variety of published editions. Stylistically, his works grew out of the Viennese tradition of Beethoven and Schubert, but were strongly influenced by Wagner, which brought Bruckner into conflict with conservative critic and Brahms partisan Eduard Hanslick. The most popular of Bruckner's symphonies are the Fourth, nicknamed Romantic, and the Seventh. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi 01 - Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, WAB 109, 1.
