Originally Deutsche Grammophon 1974. Recorded in Jesus-Christus-Kirche, Berlin. This is the DSD remaster made at the Emil Berliner Studios May 2014.
In terms of sheer conductor/composer empathy, this remains 1 of the most perfectly conceived & executed documents ever committed to disc. The links between Also sprach Zarathustra & the Vienna & Berlin Philharmonic orchestras run deep, Strauss himself seeding ideas in 1944 that Karajan took to the moon in 1973. Rarely has a piece been so indelibly associated with orchestral history.
