A collection of recordings left by Maurice Gendron [1920-1990], a famous French cellist who was also a Japanophile, to Philips, Decca, and EMI. Gendron has received high praise for his bright, beautiful sound and sophisticated expressions, and his emotional music is popular for recording, so the arrival of this box containing valuable sound sources is welcomed.
Born in Nice, Gendron studied at the Nice Conservatory in his hometown, then the Paris Conservatory, and was also involved in resistance activities during the war. Gendron's career as a musician was delayed by the war, but he made his debut at London's Wigmore Hall with Britten, and in 1947 he gained fame with the European premiere of Prokofiev's Cello Concerto. .
Gendron soon began performing in Europe and the United States, and after starting his recording career with Decca and EMI, he produced a number of famous recordings mainly with Philips, gaining high acclaim and increasing his fame.
